Minnesota Diabetes Camp: A Personal Perspective of Camp Needlepoint

Camp Needlepoint is a diabetes camp for kids in the Minnesota and Wisconsin area. Here is a personal story about a camper turned counselor ‘s experience:

Camp Needlepoint! It’s almost less than 200 days away! I don’t know where to start about how fantastic Camp Needlepoint is! Camp is where I learned to sail!  When I first arrived as a shy 12 year old, I didn’t have any other diabetic friends. Within hours, I had a cabin full. Years later, I have a camp full of the greatest friends I could ask for. When I get to camp, I see other people pulling out their meter or pump and know that I am back where I belong. Then, I get to spend the next week playing Capture the Flag, enjoying the beach path, eating, and going just a little bit crazy!
If I’m lucky, I manage to find time to write a letter home (my mom still makes me). Because of the madness that is Camp Needlepoint, I’m more comfortable with my diabetes and leave rejuvenated to tackle another crazy year before coming back to the greatest place I know!”

Hope to see you there!

My wonderful Grandson Nick was just diagnosed with type 1 diabetes this week. He is 13 years old, a incredible hockey player and terrific kid.
